Classroom Tools

Hi everyone,

Here a few great resources which I have found to be very useful in and for the classroom.

    1. Duolingo (online)

Duolingo is a language learning platform which includes an app and website that students can use in the classroom. Duolingo provides "Duolingo for Schools" with features designed to allow teachers to track their students. The students start with an assessment of their language proficiency, and then continue to complete certain levels and earn points. As they complete the levels, they progress to more challenging levels. There are many different themes for students to explore, which they can do depending on what they are learning in class. This is a great app to use for students to practice their French on their own, if there is some extra time during class, or if students finish a task early and need something to work on.

    2. Chatterpix (online app)

Chatterpix is an app which allows you to turn ordinary pictures into talking videos. You just have to take a picture of an object, draw a mouth on it, and record your voice. The picture then speaks what you recorded as if the object is saying it. This is a great app for students to practice their spoken language. I have also used this app for a French class. Students are able to practice their spoken French in a fun and unique way instead of the usual presentation in front of the class. This app is also great for students who do not like to be video recorded, but instead use only the audio in a creative way.

    3. Weareteachers (online)

WeAreTeachers is a great website for teachers with plenty of resources. On the website, you can find grade and subject specific ideas and activities for your classroom. There are many great examples of what other teachers are doing in their classrooms which you can use and modify for your classroom needs. There are also grade and subject specific printable resources, including worksheets, information sheets, and activity sheets, which teachers can access and use in their classrooms. This website also has many different articles for teachers to read about career advice, and personal wellbeing. Overall this is a valuable website for teachers to explore.

    4. Exit cards (offline)

Image result for exit cardExit cards are great offline tool for teachers to use in the classroom. Teachers can use exit cards at the end of a lesson or a unit to assess student learning. Exit cards can be used as a formative assessment to gauge student understanding. I have found them to be useful when I ask students about what they have learned so far to gain an understanding of that the class has learned and the level of each student. Exit cards are also a great tool for students to reflect on their own learning and gain a better understanding of where they are at and how they need to move forward.
