My classroom layout could
work for students in grade 4, 5, or 6. I chose to use group tables as the main
seating for the students to encourage collaboration. Students could sit in
groups of 4-5 per table depending on their needs as well as the number of
students in the classroom. Students could also do independent work at these
tables. I have also included a space at the back of the class where students
could work independently. The round table at the side of the room is where I
can help a small group of students who need extra help. The multiple choices of
seating allows for students of all different learning styles to succeed in the
classroom environment both collaboratively and independently. The more I get to
know my students, the better I can tweak the seating plan to benefit all
students. Depending on specific learning needs and styles, I can group certain
students together. Also, it is important to take into account what sort of
physical environments impact student learning, such as students who get
distracted easily close to the windows, students who need to be closer to the
teacher’s desk, students who are sensitive to light, and many other aspects. I
have also included a computer and tablet area in the corner where students can
work independently or collaboratively using technology. I also have the smart
board and projector in the room for when I need to use them during the lesson.
